NorsePeak

Sunday, June 15, 2003: Pretish and I headed up Norse Peak.  Trailhead starts at 4000 FASL.  Summit is at 6900 FASL.  2900 vertical foot climb.

At around 5900 FASL and up, the trail was mostly covered with snow.  Pretish had doubts, but I was confident we could find our way to the summit.

PICT0738: We made it to a ridge at about 6500 FASL.  This ridge is the Yakima / Pierce county boundary.  It is also the boundary for the Norse Peak wilderness.  Although we were off-track, we intersected the Pacific Crest Trail here.  Some other time, it might be fun to do this as a one-way hike from Norse Peak trailhead to Chinook Pass.

PICT0753: Mount Adams!  I've been there...  Pretish said he wants to carry a load up to Camp Muir to see if he might be in good enough shape for a Rainier summit attempt.  Having been to both, I suggest carrying a load up Mount Adams might be a better test...

This was a great hike.  The weather was nice.  We saw a number of other hikers (~30)...not too bad for a Sunday.  Most of the other hikers did NOT go to the summit.

At the summit, we met 2 other hikers who have walked up here 12 times!  12 times?  Come on...it's a nice hike, but there are 1000's of other hikes nearby you could also try.

On the way down, we bushwacked down a different ridge.  We almost got lost, but thanks to the sunny day and the GPS, we found our way back to the trail below the 5900 FASL snowline.
