Mount Ellinor

Sunday, November 3, 2002: Another beautiful, sunny, fall day in the Pacific Northwest!  I decided to head West to the Olympic mountains.  There were two mountains I used to be able to see from my office in Redmond, WA.  I believe those two mountains may have been Mount Washington and Mount Ellinor.

The trailhead is near Hoodsport, WA...a 2 hour, 15 minute trip from my house (including a 35 minute ferry ride).

PICT0114: We arrived at the trailhead at 7:50 AM.  I was worried the chimney in this picture might be Ellinor...and the dogs wouldn't be able to summit.  However, the true summit turned out to be above and beyond that chimney.  There are two trailheads for this mountain -- we chose the upper trailhead at about 3400 FASL.

PICT0116: 10:00 AM and we're at the top!  5900 FASL -- about a 2500 vertical foot climb in less than 2 miles (each way).  Parts of the trail were pretty steep, but the dogs had no problem.  In this picture, we see Buddy and Mount Olympus (highest mountain the Olympic range; to the West).

This was a great trail.  Not too difficult (2500 vertical gain in about 2 miles), and the view from the top....like I said, you could see lots of major mountains.  Olympus, Baker, Glacier Peak, Rainier, Adams, Saint Helens.
