Chicago trip

Friday, June 14, 2002:

I went to visit my friend Mikey and to attend his wedding.  Of course, any excuse to visit the windy city is a good one.  What do I like about Chicago?  I like the blues, the pizza, and the aggressive driving.  Mikey is an expert at that last thing...although his driving maybe more aptly described as suicidial. =)

Friday afternoon, Mikey, Richnut, and myself walked around downtown.  We ate some great pizza from Gino's.  We then walked off the calories by walking around Navy Pier and Lake Michigan.  One of the things I remember is that Mike was talking about the song they play on the "Beef" commercial.  Right after I had commented that the song is called "Hoedown" by Aaron Copland, we stumbled upon an orchestra in an outdoor theatre playing Aaron Copland music.

I didn't take any pictures at the wedding.  Between the wedding and the reception, I had 3 hours with nothing to do.  I used to live in Naperville many years ago (1977-1980, I think), so I drove down to Naperville and walked around to see if I would recognize where I lived as a young child 20 years ago.

I'm pretty sure this is the house that our family lived in.  610 Sleight street.  At least, the house looked very familiar.  I didn't remember the huge parking lot across the street 'tho.

And this is definitely the elementary school that I attended.  Ellsworth Elementary school.  It looks a little smaller to me, but not much different.
