Mount AIX

Sunday, August 18, 2002.

Pronunciation (I think): Mount Aches

Description: Mount Aches.

Dan, the dogs, and I left Redmond at 8:20 AM.  We stopped for breakfast and lunch supplies.  We arrived at the Aix trailhead at approximately 12:20.  Sandy and Ginger met us at the trailhead.

The trailhead starts at ~3800 FASL (Feet above sea level).  The trail is moderately steep for the first ~4 miles.  It starts in old-growth forest passing some big trees, a creek, and several springs.  2-3 miles up the trail, nice views of Rainier and Adams present themselves.

Mount Aix is not visible from Nelson ridge.  Don't be fooled by that close peak to the south -- that is Bismark peak, NOT Mount Aix.  Sorry, I didn't take a picture of Bismark peak.  From here, the trail followed Nelson ridge up and then down until finally Mount Aix was in sight.

We arrived back at the trailhead at approximately 8:15 PM (with just enough light left that we didn't need to use our flashlights).

Dan and I stopped several places looking for dinner.  We walked into a restaurant in Enumclaw.  A very rude employee ignored us and turned off the lights as we were standing there.  Apparently they did not want to serve us -- they wanted to close.  On the way back, we got lost but eventually found our way to SR164.  We arrived back in Redmond just after 11PM -- coincidentally, Red Robin closes at 11PM on Sunday.

This hike felt pretty strenuous for "only" 4000 FT elevation gain.  I was sore the next day.  This was a great hike.
